Mediabistro Questionnaire

What do you wish you'd learned sooner?
I wish I'd learned about indexing sooner. I feel extremely lucky to be one of those people who found a way to make a living at something they love. I also wish I'd started learning Italian sooner. It's coming along but not as quick as I'd like it to.

What's the hardest work project you've ever tackled?
Overall, I'd say producing an online community for one of the server divisions at 'Big Blue'. It was years ago but it was such a massive undertaking over such a long period of time - and then the archiving of the whole job history? Exhausting.

As far as indexing jobs and more recently, it would have to be the index for the 75th Anniversary edition of a Very Famous Cookbook.

What's your idea of a perfect Saturday night?
"Build Your Own Taco" night and a vicious game of Scrabble.

In ten years, I want to be:
Doing what I do now. Possibly with a home in London as well as one here in NYC.

Describe your dream assignment
Blogging about something I really believe in. Creating an index for a single author's body of work. Or – this is a real dream because it's such a shot in the dark - developing World ORT's online archive into a body of artifacts and information that pays for it's own maintenance.

*shrug* What can I say? I'm a geek.

What book is on your nightstand right now?
London: A Biography by Peter Ackroyd and Leave Me Alone! I'm Reading by Maureen Corrigan.

What's the best job you've ever had?
That's a tough question. I've always enjoyed them while they were going on. I think I get the most joy out of indexing but I also really enjoy the web marketing consultations I do with non-profits. As for copy editing -- well, there are few things more satisfying than getting the right words in the right order and knowing they are just right.

What's your idea of a perfect Monday morning?
Crisp fall weather and a brisk walk to the more distant Starbucks for a coffee and muffin.
